The weekend

Well this weekend sucked.

My mom was in a car accident (she's okay), but the bad thing is that she was driving my sister's car, so she feels tremendously guilty and upset with herself. There is a moderate amount of damage that we can see, but we're not sure yet if it will be totaled out or not. Thankfully Lauren and I work together so that I can take her to and from work, but we're still having to adjust our schedules and make alternative plans, so it's hectic.

After a long night waiting for the tow truck and all that we got home and Joe checked his email only to find an email from his boss saying that she's letting him go. What the fuck??? Seriously. This woman has done nothing but praise him and tell him how happy she is with him and his work. In fact, she even sent Joe an email the day before telling him that he did such an excellent job on this federal case he was working on, that she was so pleased with him and that he was right in line with one day becoming an attorney at her firm. And then this....terminated. I don't know if this woman is mentally unstable, but it makes no sense whatsoever. Joe is taking it well...knowing that he did everything and beyond what he could have done and worked his ass off for her. It's just such a mindfuck. I know he'll be able to get another paralegal job soon, he is great at what he does. I'm really proud of him; it's just so senseless and unfortunate.

We did get the Christmas tree up so that was good. And all 5 of us thought church yesterday was fantastic, really thought-provoking, challenging and yet comforting at the same time. It was one of those services where we all walked out of there saying how much we felt like it was written just for us, it was exactly what we needed to hear.

Funny anecdote: The title of yesterday's lesson/sermon/talk was "Let's get REALLY drunk!" Hee! I'm sure we're the only church that has used that as a Sunday morning topic. Of course Buddy, our pastor, wasn't speaking of getting drunk on alcohol, but being drunk with the Holy Spirit - that we would smell like it, talk like it, walk like it. There was a lot more there about hope and how that differs from a wish. And I'm just going to stop trying to recap because I'm making my church sound whacko.

You can hear the sermon for yourself here: http://www.gracefellowshipchurch.com/
